How Kira improved her French with MosaSeries (3:35)
She even speaks French at the end of the video!
It seemed like a good balance. New phrases and sentences were often challenging at first but then flowed smoothly as I practiced saying them. My vocabulary improved the most, then comprehension followed by grammar.

It used to be very difficult to pick apart the words that seemed to be strung together when a native speaker was talking. After MosaSeries, the ability to comprehend the general idea and even specifics of a given sentence of the story has drastically improved. The need to translate in my head happens less and less. And the story was very interesting.

I found MosaSeries has really helped to improve my comprehension and listening skills. In the past I would start listening and then get stuck when I didn't understand a word, this series helped me to keep actively listening to the whole episode even when I didn't understand every word because the episodes are not too long and the full transcript is available after you have listened a couple of times. I'm now using this technique with other audio and videos. I found the story interesting and I wanted to know what was going to happen next!

I started studying on my own about 10 years ago, of course with a lot of methods on the internet that guaranteed to teach me 100% of the language in a very short time, but I didn't really make much progress.
I'm very grateful to the MosaLingua team because they have helped me lay a good foundation since I started as a beginner until today.

Today I can understand many podcasts and YouTube videos without subtitles.

The level was perfect for me. The system really works: I've improved on all fronts and have quickly learned 900 words, and I’m nearly 70 years old!

Thanks to MosaSeries I have greatly improved my comprehension skills and today I am able to watch any video of interest to me on YouTube. I have started watching TV series in the original language without subtitles, but most importantly I have gained the confidence that I lacked to jump into conversations with natives. If before I avoided them, today I constantly seek them out. I just started the second series and look forward to continuing with the improvements.

In the past, I started listening to the news but I could not understand anything so was frustrating for me. After MosaSeries, I improved a lot my listening skills. I learned to listen with a more relaxed attitude, not trying too hard to understand everything. And I really enjoyed the course - the voices are very clear, really love the Italian language, I think the actors have very good voices!

I really enjoyed MosaSeries. I loved every episode and I was always excited to see what would happen next. The quality of the recording and voice actors was amazing. I found it very useful, practical, and interesting. It helped me a lot in my learning. I'm 100% satisfied!

What a story! And what a happy ending! Well done on this story full of twists, which helps us stay motivated to learn. I was really invested in Helen and Simon, and I'm a little sad that it's over! This series helped me to improve my listening skills. Now, I can keep listening to podcasts and watching series to gradually get used to the faster rhythm and different accents. Thank you to the MosaLingua team for the quality of your work, and your customer support.

A great learning tool! I found the first few episodes a bit easy, but the content gradually became more difficult. A few episodes later, after going through all the steps, I understood every word.

I went from beginner to a B1 level! I like that you get to listen without reading the text at first. I also really like the app because of its offline use, and because I get to review the flashcards daily. Sometimes the words I learned long ago pop up, so I have to repeat them again, and thus not forget them.

Benefit from the efficiency of the MosaLearning® method, which has already helped more than 13 million people around the world

Highlights of our method

Have fun while learning

Simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the exciting story of the “man with no name,” who wakes up in a hospital with no memory of who he is. You’ll be so engrossed in the story and it’s different characters and situations that you won’t even realize how much you’re learning!

Make quick progress

Each episode slowly introduces new ideas (incremental acquisition), so that learning is easy, gradual, and frustration-free. The pace adapts to different levels, including true beginners. Relax and follow along. Our instructors will guide you along the way and are available to help with any questions.

Learn to follow a conversation or TV show

After analyzing results from our users, we’ve determined that it takes an average of 3 to 6 months to see substantial improvement in listening skills. Of course, you won’t understand every word and every sentence in a TV show or movie… But if you follow our EasyAudioPrep method, you’ll be able to understand about 80% of the dialogue in your favorite shows (and enjoy watching, too)!

Why do you struggle to understand English?

Luca Sadurny
MosaLingua co-founder

Hello, I’m Luca.
Yes, it’s true that I can speak 8 languages. You might think that I have a natural talent for it, but the truth is that, even after studying English for years in school, I struggled a lot with the language. Especially speaking.
In my case, I was learning English, but what I’m saying applies to learning  English, as well.

My friends were always trying to give me advice:
“It’s easy, you just need to read books in English!”
“Watch movies and shows in the original versions.”
“You should listen to foreign radio.”
There’s always someone to remind you: “So-and-so did this, and now she speaks perfect English.  It’s easy; you should do the same!”

And I tried! I tried to read a book in English. I didn’t understand anything, and I was constantly looking in the dictionary…  It was torture. It took me days to finish the first chapter, and I gave up before long. With movies and shows, it was impossible for me to understand without subtitles. But that wasn’t for lack of trying; I watched a lot! But I realized that I wasn’t making any progress, because I wasn’t pushing myself beyond just reading the subtitles…
Back then, I tried all kinds of different methods. But progress never came, and it was very hard to stay motivated!

Despite spending hours studying (and quite a bit of money on different classes and tools), my English was still at the same level. I felt stupid, my motivation was gone, and I could feel that all my frustrations were resulting in a negative attitude toward English. I made excuses for myself. I told myself that I just didn’t have the gift for languages that others seemed to have, and that, in any case, I didn’t really like the language anyways…

Do you see a bit of yourself in my story? I wouldn't be surprised!
confettis-right

Don’t worry, over more than 13 years, our team of language lovers has helped over 13 million learners. And we’ve noticed that this phenomenon is very common.

I must admit that we also encourage leaners to read and to watch TV shows in our blogs… Sure, it’s great to be able to read and watch movies or shows in English! You can progress without even realizing it. But that only works if you already have a foundation in English.

So the main issue is content targeted to native speakers (TV shows, movies, books) is much too difficult for learners! And this kind of content uses a version of
English that’s very different from what you might have learned in school.

So before you have the skills necessary to consume interesting content in
English, you’ll need to already have established a strong base in English. But as you know, building this foundation takes time, and many of us know that traditional courses are often boring. So there’s always a chance that you might become discouraged and give up.

SOLUTION: Expose yourself to "comprehensible input"

The idea of “comprehensible input” was introduces in  1985 in a book called “The Input Hypothesis: Issues and Implications” by Stephen D. Krashen. The famous American linguist explains that a learner progresses when they receive “input” that is one step above their linguistic capabilities.

This means that you need to expose yourself to content that is adapted to your current level, that introduces new concepts gradually.

But again: this is all easy to say, but very difficult to put into practice
It is often very hard to find interesting content that’s suited to a learner’s current level.

This was our inspiration for creating MosaSeries...

Read what other users have to say about MosaSeries:
I must say that I really like MosaSeries. The story is exciting and the structure of the episodes very well thought out. I especially liked that it started really slow, with simple short sentences, and the pace and complexity increased a bit with each episode. This helped me a lot in learning to understand. I also noticed each time how my listening comprehension improved quickly after looking at the important vocabulary in the episode. I also find it excellent that there is a grammar lesson for each episode. After all, if you can make a connection between what you just heard and the rules that were used, learning grammar is twice as much fun!

When I started this method, all I had was my distant school experience (I'm 57) in English. I never thought I'd be able to make so much progress so quickly. With this story, my interest in the language has grown and I never stop wanting to learn more.

My problem was comprehension... I was focused on real-time translation, so I often missed the general idea. With MosaSeries, I improved my comprehension skills thanks to a legitimate method and now I know how to get by on my own. You guys did a great job!"

I had tried watching movies and shows with original audio before... and I understood a lot less than I do today. I've improved my listening a lot. I still have a lot to learn, but for sure MosaSeries has really helped me a lot!!! And my reading has improved too... for sure I'm pretty happy and proud... I just thank you guys. Thank you!!!!

Before I started, I would never have been able to listen to an audio recording and I'd never really been motivated to put in the effort. Today, thanks to MosaSeries, my confidence has grown and I enjoy listening to audio. The most important for me, though, is to be proud to listen to a whole text and to understand it perfectly!

I had lost motivation because I couldn't make any progress. I had no clear method and was going off in all directions, but not productively. Thanks to you, I developed a productive approach, I reinforced the basics and acquired vocabulary. The most important thing for me is your help. You helped me gain confidence and to speak this language with native speakers. I've improved my accent, I've learned more vocabulary, and I feel more comfortable constructing somewhat complex sentences. Above all, I've gained confidence and dare to aim even higher in this language!

The birth of MosaSeries: THE CONTEST

audience-auditorium-business-758976

We’d been thinking about the problem of oral comprehension for several years.
Why spend years doing boring exercises before being able to have fun enjoying more interesting material? Wasn’t there a way to create interesting content that could translate to real progress, that would be accessible to all, including beginners? At the time, we had 10 years of experience, had helped more than 10 million learners, and a great team of 25 language lovers. What better conditions for finding a creative and effective solution?

pexels-photo-891674

We started by organizing a contest. We challenged 5 writers to come up with the beginning of an exciting story, while also keeping to strict pedagogical requirements… The winning story came from a French-American writer. She worked hard with our team of instructors to come up with an original story that would gradually introduce specific vocabulary and grammar concepts based on a variety of different pedagogical methods (see scientific references at the end).

adult-2178963_640

Following an analysis of millions of TV subtitles representative of common spoken English, we inserted the 1,300 most-used words into the story. You’ll learn the vast majority of these words passively, without making any concerted effort to do so. This is done through progressive, contextual introduction. For the more difficult words, we’ve created a set of over 500 flashcards to help you commit them to your long term memory (using the MosaLearning ® method). Using our EasyAudioPrep method, you’ll be able to understand about 80% of the dialogue in a English movie, and you should be able to use context to figure out even more.

Microphone Pro Recording-small

Next, we had a casting call for 4 professional voice actors to record the dialogue, as well as a team of professional editors to put it all together.
Then our instructors filmed a series of video lessons to help break down the most important ideas in a clear and educational way. No boring lessons or useless concepts.

All this is just to say that MosaSeries was huge undertaking, but all along the way we were confident that our investment would pay off. We released the finished product to a test group, and the results were truly incredible!

Of all the products we've created, this one yields the strongest progress, and has the lowest drop rate.
We credit much of this success to the cliffhangers!

The power of the cliffhanger

A few years ago, Samuel, a co-founder of MosaLingua, stumbled upon a very powerful motivation tool:

You’re probably well aware of one of the biggest roadblocks to language learning: loss of motivation. Learning a language takes time, and motivation and willpower come and go… There are some days where it’s a struggle to put in the time, and if this continues for days on end, learners often become discouraged and give up…

Samuel Michelot
MosaLingua co-founder

“I love exercising outdoors. But it’s difficult in winter because of the weather… The solution is to go to the gym. The problem is that I don’t like working out inside, and I have a really hard time motivating myself to go.
But one day, I was listening to an audiobook while I worked out. It was so engaging that I stayed a the gym much longer than I intended, without even noticing the time go by. And I wanted to get back as soon as possible so I could hear what happened next. Thanks to the power of a good story, I was able to transform an unpleasant task into a fun activity, creating a habit that didn’t require much effort.

Have you ever been so caught up in a good book or TV show that you had a hard time putting it down? I’m sure you have! And unlike traditional language classes, it’s easy to want to keep going. The hard part is stopping and giving yourself time to digest what you’ve learned!
What is this technique that keeps us on the edge of our
seats?
The best books and shows use cliffhangers.

"a story or a situation that is exciting because its ending or result is uncertain until it happens"
confettis-right

So, cliffhangers are a storytelling technique that consists of creating suspense by leaving an intense storyline unresolved, or introducing unexpected new information at the end of a chapter or episode. They’re what make certain books and shows feel addictive.

Of course, there are many other aspects to a great story, and our writer certainly had a few more tricks up her sleeve!

So we thought, "Why not use these same techniques to make lessons engaging and addictive?"

So, we managed to subtly insert important information that has a reputation for being challenging (like vocabulary and grammar) into an exciting story full of suspense and mystery. And the result is unbelievable!

This course’s success rate is higher than anything we’ve seen, and higher than we could have imagined. No more grammar books gathering dust on your shelf. We’re so excited to share this method with you that we guarantee you’ll love it – and make great progress. If not, we’ll give you your money back!
